Johnlock, #15

Sherlock wrapped the scarf tightly around his neck, before shrugging his coat. He opened the door of his flat and was about to step out side when he saw a cat. He knew Mrs Hudson didn't have a cat, nor had intentions to get a cat, so was slightly confused as to who's it was.

John finished editing a little magazine paragraph and leaned back on his spinny chair. He expected a warm, fluffy furball to find its way to his lap, but when that didn't happen, John got up. Not good. Usually Enterprise was lurking around to catch John not working and nuzzle his way into a petting session, but that wasn't the way this time. John got up and started looking for her. When he found out that Enterprise wasn't in the flat, he put on his shoes and a jacket and walked out.

Sherlock wasn't particularly a fan of animals, so was just about to brush past the cat when he saw someone he hadn't seen before. Mrs Hudson had mentioned about a new neighbour might be moving in, but she never confirmed it. He must be the neighbour. Obviously, this was his cat. "Your cat is here" Sherlock said.

"Ah, yes, thank you, sorry", John clumsily made his way to the cat and picked her up, not yet looking at the man properly."Sorry, about that, it's a new space, she needs to get used to it." Enterprise climbed on top of John's shoulder and started nuzzling in his neck with a loud purr."I'm John Watson, your new neighbour", John introduced himself with a smile, but didn't offer his hand, because he was busy with the cat. He then properly looked at the man. Every piece of him stood out, from cheekbones and eyes to a coat and a scarf. He seemed familiar.

"Sherlock Holmes" Sherlock replied, looking this John up and down, studying him.

"Have I met you before? I mean, I'm sure I heard that name, and it's not exactly common, mind you", John said with an open, warm, friendly smile.

"No, I haven't met you before" Sherlock said simply, clearly wanting to continue on his way.

John felt kind of surprised by the coldness of the man in front of him."I heard your name somewhere, I'm sure... Say, are you the writer of Shadow of the Tree?" John suddenly remembered the story he edited a while ago, in college still, which struck him as oddly interesting and vastly enjoyable, he didn't as much edit it, he read it and he loved it.

"Oh that. That was published years ago. The average person would have forgotten that by now" Sherlock dismissed it with a wave of his hand.

"No, I edited it, I was the editor at the time, and among all those boring and horribly written stories, yours stood out", John remarked smiling again, not letting Sherlock's disinterest get to him.

"Thank you. It is my best so far" Sherlock said, with a curt nod.

"Have you written anything else?" John asked shifting Enterprise to his other shoulder. The cat wasn't exactly light, and kneading into his skin certainly wasn't helping her weight.

"One other, Kamikaze. It wasn't published, mind you." Sherlock said, now looking at the cat.

"That's amazing, I'd love to read it if you don't mind me snooping around", John suggested. Sherlock Holmes was a freakishly tall man, John felt like a garden gnome around him, and that wasn't a very pleasant feeling.

"You said you editted my last work, you can edit this one?" Sherlock suggested, he knew that the Shadow of a Tree had been editted to a high standard.

"Well of course, if I find time, which I probably will. Recently I've been working in magazines, which gets done under five minutes a page", John scoffed at the thought of the sappy and corny stuff he'd read.

"Why does it matter about who's sleeping with who and the rest of that stuff" Sherlock didn't ask, it was more of a statement.

"It doesn't, that's my point. Now, I'll feed this animal and you were just going out, yeah? I'll see you around, then", John said grabbing Enterprise off of his shoulder with one hand.

Sherlock had almost forgotten he was going out somewhere, "Right, yeah" He said, "See you"

John scattered off to his room whispering quiet words to Enterprise. Some were scolds and some where praises in a pet voice. Ye, John loved that cat too much for his own good.

After John finished his daily work and played woth Enterprise, he felt bored. So what else could he do, he decided to go to the closest cafe bar, maybe he'd even get a date, if he got lucky. So, when he changed from his casual, laid back clothes and put on some shoes, John headed out.
